AT&T Operators describe how the board lit up and the calls they received on the night Orson Welles’ famous War of the Worlds radio broadcast triggered fear.  “The people really believed it,” reported the operators.  Welles’ famous show was broadcast on October 30, 1938…the eve of Halloween.
