Curiously, David Hasselhoff had a huge hit in West Germany in 1989 with a song called “Looking for Freedom.” He performed it standing on the remains of the Berlin Wall–sporting an iconic piano-keyboard tie while covered in motion lights–on New Year’s Eve after the wall had been partially taken down.
