Yuri Gagarin Launched a New Era in the History of Mankind

Cosmonaut Pavel Popovich, others, and  Yuri Gargarin himself discuss the day Gargarin was sent into orbit as the first person in space. Gagarin was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut during the Cold War and went into space in 1961 on the Vostok spacecraft. He was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union, the nation’s highest honor.
