Sidney Poitier’s Oscar Win: ‘I Had No Thought of Oscar, None!’

Sidney Poitier explains that he never thought about winning an Oscar when he emerged himself in the role of Homer Smith in the film, Lilies of the Field, and remembers what it was like when they called his name for Best Actor at the 36th Academy Awards. This was the first Oscar for Best Actor awarded to an African American on April 13, 1964.
