Lou Nanne, a former national team player, hockey executive, and close friend of Herb Brooks, recalls how it felt to watch the U.S. finally defeat the Soviet team after years of futility. After the game he went to Brooks in the locker room and enjoyed the moment with the coach. “I played them from 1960, and this is 1980, and I never heard our national anthem. So that was something,” Nanne says.
