J. D. Salinger
The Impact Of The Catcher In The Rye

Author Elizabeth Frank discusses the impact of J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher In The Rye, saying: “I think that The Catcher In The Rye was a very revolutionary book for the America of the early 1950s. It truly was an era of conformity. I remember the 50s and I’m glad that they’re over with, and I think it was exhilarating for those of us who discovered Holden Caulfield later in the 50s to have someone who was sort of a champion of bad words and cutting school and pointing out the dreariness and the hypocrisy of that era.”
