Miracle on Ice
Gerald Eskenazi: ‘When They Hit Each Other, You Would Hear That Noise’

Gerald Eskenazi, a reporter for the New York Times, recalls covering the Miracle on Ice game in the cramped, dark arena and his other experiences in Lake Placid. He describes the arena and the complicated process he used to file his story in the crowded press box. The “Miracle on Ice” refers to the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team’s defeat of the Russians on February 22nd and their winning Gold medal game against Finland two days later led by Coach Herb Brooks.
