Arab Spring
Charlie Beckett on the Use of Social Media During the Arab Spring

Charlie Beckett, Director of the London School of Economics, discusses how social media helped the Arab Spring grow and why citizen journalism fueled the revolution. Beckett also comments on the sheer volume of content that news associations can access and the importance of validating the information. The Arab Spring began on December 18, 2010 in response to the self-immolation of a Tunisian vendor on December 17th who experienced bureaucratic harassment.
