Bruce Springsteen Honors John Lennon the Night After He Died

John Lennon was killed on December 8, 1980. Bruce Springsteen performed that night and the next at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, opening with “Born to Run.” This recording is from the night of December 9. He closed the show that night with “Twist and Shout,” a shout out to an iconic Beatles recording, known for Lennon’s energetic vocals. John Lennon was assassinated by Mark David Chapman, a man he had earlier signed a copy of Double Fantasy for.
