Astronaut Jim Lovell on the Apollo 8 Mission

NASA Astronaut James 'Jim' Lovell was the Apollo 8 Command Module Pilot. Lovell discusses the importance of going to the moon in 1968 and remembers what it was like to be in orbit on Christmas Eve reading an excerpt from Genesis. He also comments on the possibility of an accident during the mission and the well known 'Earth Rise' photo the mission is known for. Apollo 8 launched on December 21, 1968 and landed back on Earth on December 27th.
