Cecile Richards, President of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America commemorates the 40th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Her first person account along with those of other doctors describe what it was like before the final court decision in Roe v. Wade regarding abortion. They also describe the many women who had illegal abortions or have died from them. Roe v. Wade was a decision passed by the United States Supreme Court regarding abortion. The Court ruled 7–2 that a right to privacy under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment extended to a woman's decision to have an abortion. Women could choose abortion in earlier months of pregnancy without legal restriction, and with restrictions in later months, based on that right to privacy.
