Ted Koppel Remembers His Start as an Anchor

Ted Koppel remembers when he became the anchor on Nightline and shares his emotional reaction to news of the promotion. He also discusses how he planned to use his unique position for good and difference between being a correspondent versus being an anchor. Nightline first aired on March 24, 1980, but the program began as Iran Crisis–America Held Hostage on November 8, 1979 to cover the 444 day long Iran Hostage Crisis. Koppel became the anchor a few days into the show's inception, after Frank Reynolds stopped hosting the broadcast.
