Taylor Swift released her fifth album, 1989, on October 27, 2014. In this video, Swift discusses how her recent move to New York has impacted her sound, saying: “It affected every part of my life, which then inadvertently affects my music. So, When my life changes, that’s when you’ll see a change in themes on my albums. So with this new album, my life changed to becoming only about prioritizing my friends above everything else, prioritizing what I wanted, being independent, really protecting that independence and feeling very free to do whatever I wanted artistically, geographically… I moved to New York for essentially no reason.”
