Enron Scandal
Senator Maria Cantwell Discusses Enron’s Biggest Mistake

Senator Maria Cantwell, United States Senator for the State of Washington, gives a first-person account on why Enron's manipulation of electricity markets is a "lesson that's been way too expensive to learn a second time around". She speculates that Enron's' manipulation has caused a loss of homes and pensions, and resulted in higher energy cost for businesses in the Northwest. Senator Cantwell is Washington's second female senator after Patty Murray, first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000 and then again in 2006. She has pledged to help create affordable opportunities for families, businesses and consumers in the state of Washington. Enron filed for bankruptcy on December 2, 2001.
