Miracle on Ice
Olie Kolzig: ‘Your Opponent Might Be Stronger, But There’s a Reason You Play.’

Long-time NHL goalie Olie Kolzig discusses watching the game as a 10 year old in Canada and his increased appreciation for the game. He also talks about the phenomenal play of Jim Craig and what it means to be in the zone as a goalie. “You see the puck so clear, it looks so big, it looks like it’s coming relatively slow at you.” He also remembers a training camp at the Lake Placid rink. The Miracle on Ice refers to the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team’s defeat of the Soviets on February 22nd and their winning gold medal game against Finland two days later led by Coach Herb Brooks.
