Watch the first TV interview with Nelson Mandela, human rights activist and former South African President, recorded in 1961. He describes what South Africans really want and explains his hopes for a peaceful integration of the country. Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years starting in 1962, sentenced to life in prison in 1964, and was inaugurated as President of South Africa on May 10, 1994. Mandela passed away on December 5, 2013.
