Richard Samet “Kinky” Friedman is a country singer, novelist, humorist and politician who ran for Governor of Texas in 2006. He received 12.6% of the vote, coming in fourth out of six candidates. In this video, Friedman discusses what makes Texas unique. When asked if Texas is different from anywhere else in the U.S., Friedman responds: “Sure it is. We’re a bipolar state. Very progressive in some places and in some we’re, you know, the usual brontosaurus material. We’re somewhat backwards, but that’s part of our charm. We’re not pretentious.”
