Dr. Curtis Boyd, who provided thousands of illegal abortions to women in Texas, remembers the day that abortion became legal. His first person account addresses his excitement over the court ruling and his delight to see a better time for women in need. In 1973, Roe v. Wade, was a decision passed by the United States Supreme Court regarding abortion. The Court ruled 7–2 that a right to privacy under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment extended to a woman's decision to have an abortion. Women could choose abortion in earlier months of pregnancy without legal restriction, and with restrictions in later months, based on that right to privacy.
