Bobby Fischer was an American chess prodigy considered by many to be the greatest chess player of all time. Fischer began competing in the United States Chess Championship at age 14, and at age 15 he became the youngest grandmaster of his time. In 1972, Fischer defeated Boris Spassky of the USSR to claim the title of World Chess Champion.
