Writer James Salter talks about how he came to writing at the age of 32. “It was like starting life from scracth,” he said. “I was on my own.” He had been in World War 2 and took his experiences to the page. “I admire myself more on the page than I do in reality.” Born James Horowitz, he changed his name to Salter when he became a writer.
