Ted Koppel describes the setting of the Iran Hostage Crisis, the event that led to his first job as an anchor, and what it was like to report on the 444 day long situation. What began as ABC's special Iran Crisis–America Held Hostage broadcast, later evolved into Nightline on March 24, 1980. Koppel became the anchor a few days into the show's inception, after Frank Reynolds stopped hosting the broadcast.
