In this 2001 TED Talk, former U.C.L.A. basketball Coach John Wooden explains the difference between winning and succeeding and shares his definition of true success. He also shares advice he gave his U.C.L.A. basketball players and recalls bits of his father’s wisdom that helped him through life. Wooden was an American basketball player and head coach at U.C.L.A. where he won ten National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) national championships in a 12-year period, seven of them in a row. His team also won a record 88 consecutive games before losing to Notre Dame on January 19, 1974 and he was named national coach of the year six times before his death on June 4, 2010.
