Ian Harvey, an RAF Hercules air engineer, tells how the Hercules fleet supported British forces in the Gulf in 1990 and 1991. His first-person account reveals how he responded to the call that called him into action and what it was like flying supplies back and forth to their bases. Harvey explains that "they were just flying continuously". The Gulf War (August 2, 1990 to February 28, 1991), codenamed Operation Desert Storm (January 17, 1991 to February 28, 1991) was a war waged by a U.N.-authorized coalition force from 34 nations led by the United States against Iraq in response to Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait. The war is also known under other names, such as the Persian Gulf War, First Gulf War, Gulf War I, Kuwait War, or the First Iraq War, before the term "Iraq War" became identified instead with the 2003 Iraq War.
