Adolf Eichmann was a lieutenant colonel in the Nazi Army and one of the lead organizers of the holocaust. Eichmann was responsible for coordinating the logistics of of sending Jews to ghettos and extermination camps across Easter Europe during World War II. After the war, Eichmann managed to escape to Austria and then to Argentina, where he began a new life under an assumed name. In 1960, Israeli intelligence tracked him down and captured him, bringing him to Israel to stand trial on charges including war crimes and crimes against the Jewish people. Eichmann’s trial was the first trial to be televised. He was found guilty and on December 15, 1961, was sentenced to die by hanging. His sentence was carried out on May 31, 1962. Edward Brooke, former Massachusetts senator during Richard Nixon’s administration, discusses how he became the first republican to openly ask President Nixon to resign on November 4, 1973, shortly after the Watergate Scandal. According to Brooke, Nixon had lost the confidence of the American people, and because of that he should “spare the country from impeachment proceedings.” He also describes Nixon’s response, recalling that the former president said that this would be “taking the cowardly way out.”

Broadcast journalist Ted Koppel shares his opinions on what was most unsettling to him about the Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky scandal that emerged in 1998. In this video, Koppel says that Clinton having an affair with other women and being unfaithful to his wife was not what bothered him– what bothered him was that Paula Jones, who filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Clinton in 1994, did not get a fair hearing due to the former president lying under oath during his deposition. He then goes on to share an anecdote about a note he received from Clinton after he had gone on record with the New York Times Magazine saying Clinton was the toughest person to interview because he always felt that “he was two or three questions ahead” of him.

Simpson Trial, King calls Simpson “the most famous human to ever be charged with murder.” He talks about the period during the trial in 1994 and 1995 and how all of America was following the murder case. King, himself, claims he had informants on both sides of the trial. “People of the State of California vs. Orenthal James Simpson” is often considered one of the most publicized trials in American history. Simpson, a former NFL player, was accused of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and a waiter named Ronald Lyle Goldman. After an eight month trial, Simpson was found not guilty on October 3, 1995. But after the verdict was released, there was still skepticism surrounding the case with many Americans having different opinions about the verdict.

Eloise Reed, resident of Dayton, Tennessee and present during the Scopes Trial of 1925, explains the face-off that occurred between defense attorney Clarence Darrow and prosecutor William Jennings Bryan. Darrow, a well-known criminal lawyer and agnostic, called Bryan–a fundamentalist Christian and leader of the Democratic Party–to the witness stand during the trial in order to denounce his beliefs and defend the rights of people to teach evolutionary theory. Reed, along with other historians and experts, explain the tensions and harsh exchanges between the two as Bryan fought to defend the Bible and Darrow fought to discredit Bryan’s anti-evolution beliefs.
