Dear Bob:

It is with regret that I have received your resignation. You have played a very vital role in the conduct of public affairs.

Both President Kennedy and I sought your counsel on a wide range of matters going far beyond the usual concerns of the Department of Justice. For four years you have shared in deliberations on major matters of national security, and your contributions have been significant.

You must also share my special satisfaction at your conduct of the office of Attorney General. Under your administration the Department of Justice achieved new standards of excellence and has come to symbolize this government’s insistence on the vigorous and impartial assurance of equal justice to all Americans. It has been an administration worthy in every way of the grand tradition of justice on which American liberty rests.

My regret at your leaving is tempered by satisfaction in the knowledge that you intend to continue your service to your country. You will soon be back in Washington where I can again call upon your judgment and counsel.

Ethel Kennedy gives a rare interview about her life and her marriage to Robert F. Kennedy to Brian Williams and her daughter Rory Kennedy, who was making a documentary about her mother. She talks about enjoying her life surrounded by politics and says that while everything came easy to John F. Kennedy, things were much more difficult for her husband. When asked about her husband’s assassination, she refuses to talk about it. Ethel and Bobby Kennedy had 11 children, with her last child, Rory, being born six months after her father’s death. Their large family also had 16 dogs and even a pet sea lion. Today, Kennedy’s life is full of attending events involving her 35 grandchildren.

Broadcast journalist Barbara Walters shares a funny anecdote that occurred when Robert Kennedy came to a store in Rockefeller Plaza to be interviewed by the “Today” show. Walters recalls the program having to rent out this store where there lived a resident parrot. The parrot ended up unexpectedly badgering Kennedy as he was nervously waiting for the interview to begin backstage.

Rob Beemer and Paul Schrade were both injured during the fatal shooting of Robert F. Kennedy by Sirhan Sirhan in a Los Angeles hotel on June 5, 1968. Beemer, producer on the documentary, “Conspiracy Test: The RFK Assassination,” discusses the audio tape that has rekindled conspiracy theories on the presence of a second gunman that night. Schrade recalls his experience of getting shot on that tragic night in 1968 and speculates on the implications of the shocking audiotape known as the Pruszynski recording.
