This video reveals the rescued photographs of the late former first lady of Argentina Eva Perón, which were taken by Alfredo Mazzorotlo during the last six years of Perón’s life. Mazzorotlo’s photographs depict Perón at different ceremonies, on various trips, and in private meetings. The photographer’s daughter, Maria Teresa Mazzorotola explains that her father chose to bury the photographs for nearly twenty years because he feared they would be lost or damaged. Maria Teresa describes that it was necessary to protect these photographs because Eva Perón was an incredibly influential political yet controversial figure in Argentinian political history.

In this news broadcast from 1996, Professor Marysa Navarro of Dartmouth College discusses the influence that the First Lady of Argentina, Eva Perón, had on her people. Navarro describes how the 1996 movie “Evita,” starring Madonna as Perón, paints the former First Lady in a negative light–a simple “caricature”–who began as a manipulative “country bumpkin” and tricked many people in order to attain power. Navarro argues that Perón was a pivotal icon for women in politics and she was a voice to the working class of Argentina. Eva Perón became a beloved political figure in Argentina’s history yet there is still a debate as to whether she was a “saint or a sinner.”

In this speech from 1951, the beloved first lady of Argentina, Eva Perón, made her final address to her nation’s people. Perón uses this moment to specifically call out support for the poor people of Argentina and she praises them for being proactive. She also credits her capable husband, Juan Perón, for establishing justice and liberty within the country. Eva mentions that her ambitions lay in the political arena yet she says, “All I aspire is the love from my Argentinian people.” In turn, the crowd erupts with reciprocated love and zeal for their first lady.
