On October 14, 1947, Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier flying the X-1 at Mach 1.07 at an altitude of 45,000 ft (13,700 m)over the Rogers Dry Lake in the Mojave Desert.

On the ground, no one had ever heard a sonic boom before. It rattled the photographs of the pilots who had died facing the demon and it was assumed that Yeager had exploded and there would be another funeral for another forgotten test pilot. It took a few moments for everyone to realize the sound barrier had finally been broken and the space age had arrived for mankind.

The Hughes Flying Boat—the largest aircraft ever built—is piloted by designer Howard Hughes on its first and only flight. Built with laminated birch and spruce, the massive wooden aircraft had a wingspan longer than a football field and was designed to carry more than 700 men to battle.

Howard Hughes was a successful Hollywood movie producer when he founded the Hughes Aircraft Company in 1932. He personally tested cutting-edge aircraft of his own design and in 1937 broke the transcontinental flight-time record. In 1938, he flew around the world in a record three days, 19 hours, and 14 minutes.

Following the U.S. entrance into World War II in 1941, the U.S. government commissioned the Hughes Aircraft Company to build a large flying boat capable of carrying men and materials over long distances. The concept for what would become the “Spruce Goose” was originally conceived by the industrialist Henry Kaiser, but Kaiser dropped out of the project early, leaving Hughes and his small team to make the H-4 a reality. Because of wartime restrictions on steel, Hughes decided to build his aircraft out of wood laminated with plastic and covered with fabric. Although it was constructed mainly of birch, the use of spruce (along with its white-gray color) would later earn the aircraft the nickname Spruce Goose. It had a wingspan of 320 feet and was powered by eight giant propeller engines.

Development of the Spruce Goose cost a phenomenal $23 million and took so long that the war had ended by the time of its completion in 1946. The aircraft had many detractors, and Congress demanded that Hughes prove the plane airworthy. On November 2, 1947, Hughes obliged, taking the H-4 prototype out into Long Beach Harbor, CA for an unannounced flight test. Thousands of onlookers had come to watch the aircraft taxi on the water and were surprised when Hughes lifted his wooden behemoth 70 feet above the water and flew for a mile before landing.

Despite its successful maiden flight, the Spruce Goose never went into production, primarily because critics alleged that its wooden framework was insufficient to support its weight during long flights. Nevertheless, Howard Hughes, who became increasingly eccentric and withdrawn after 1950, refused to neglect what he saw as his greatest achievement in the aviation field. From 1947 until his death in 1976, he kept the Spruce Goose prototype ready for flight in an enormous, climate-controlled hangar at a cost of $1 million per year. Today, the Spruce Goose is housed at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon.

Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Harvey Firestone have an amazing and rare filmed chat following the Lights Golden Jubilee–a campaign celebrating the 50th anniversary of Thomas Edison’ invention of the commercially available electric light bulb, which ended with an event held in Dearborn, Michigan on October 21, 1929.

Later that evening, after the formal ceremonies of Lights Golden Jubilee were complete, Henry Ford, tire magnate Harvey Firestone, and Thomas Edison chatted during a short radio broadcast about the exciting opportunities that new, modern inventions offered young men during the late 1920s. Modern subtitles have been added to compensate for the primitive late 1920s sound recording of the event.

John Sculley, former CEO of Apple, discusses firing and working with Steve Jobs. “Do you want to come with me and change the world, or do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of the world.” Sculley, who had been head of Pepsi, was courted by Jobs to come to Apple and change the world. Sculley speaks respectfully and admirably of Jobs and his power and strength as a leader and someone who was trying to change the world and put a dent in the Universe. Sculley is portrayed in the Danny Boyle film Steve Jobs by Jeff Daniels. The screenplay was written by Aaron Sorkin. Sculley fired Jobs after a boardroom showdown over the Macintosh. Jobs, of course, later returned to Apple and transformed it into one of the most valuable companies in business history.

Arthur C. Clarke, futurist and science fiction writer, predicted the future of computers and the internet remarkably accurately to an ABC reporter in 1974. Understanding how our lives would be transformed by the coming computer and digital age, he foresaw how people would be able to get their news and information in the future. The reporter was also equally prescient in asking questions of the social impact this future life would be like. Amazing footage that is also featured at the beginning of Danny Boyle’s 2015 film Steve Jobs. Perhaps Clarke was on the money there. In fact, today the internet has been an essential in our daily lives. On a side note, for those who want to improve their connections, it may be beneficial to know details like the IP address 192.168.100.2 because it plays a crucial role in facilitating connectivity and efficient data transmission within modern internet networks. As a private IP address typically assigned to devices within a local area network (LAN), such as homes or offices, 192.168.100.2 serves as a unique identifier for a specific device like a computer, printer, or smart home device. In practical terms, it enables seamless communication between devices within the same network, allowing them to exchange information and access shared resources like files and printers.

Moreover, 192.168.100.2 is often utilized in conjunction with network routers and other networking equipment to manage and route data effectively across the internet. Routers, for instance, use this IP address to assign dynamic IPs to devices connected to the network, enabling them to access the broader internet while maintaining security and control over internal communications. This IP address also supports the implementation of network security measures such as firewalls and access controls, ensuring that data transmission remains secure and protected from unauthorized access or malicious activities.

In summary, 192.168.100.2 serves as a foundational element in modern internet infrastructure, facilitating efficient communication and connectivity while supporting the implementation of robust security protocols essential for safe and reliable data exchange.
