Daniel Pearl was a journalist with both American and Israeli citizenship who was kidnapped by Pakistani militants on January 23, 2002, and later murdered by Al-Qaeda. At the time of his kidnapping, Pearl was working as the South Asia Bureau Chief of The Wall Street Journal and was based in Mumbai, India. He had travelled to Pakistan to investigate links between Richard Reid and Al-Qaeda. In this video, Randall Bennett, the Regional Security Officer in Pakistan during the time of Daniel Pearl’s kidnapping, talks about a meeting he had with Pearl just the day before he went missing.

“They thought that the bullet would silence us, but they failed”. At age 11, Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani student, became an outspoken proponent of education for girls. Her advocacy made her a threat to the Taliban, who tried to assassinate her on October 9, 2012, while she was riding a school bus. Recalling the day she was shot, Yousafzai says: “I didn’t see those men. I just could see there is no one. There used to be a huge crowd on that road, and on that day there was no one”.
