Patricia Hearst, granddaughter of publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst, was kidnapped from her home in Berkely, California on February 4, 1974 by the Symbionese Liberation Army. One condition the SLA gave for Patty Hearst’s release was that her family distribute $70 worth of food to every needy Californian. Hearst’s father took out a loan to arrange for the donation of $2 million of food to the Bay Area, however the SLA still refused to release her. Two months after her abduction, Hearst announced that she had joined the SLA and assumed the name “Tania”. Hearst then participated in the robbery of a bank with the SLA.
