George O’Brien received the Medal of Honor from President Eisenhower for his heroism during the Korean War.

“The medal is not mine. I wear it for all those young kid who never grew up to be grandfathers. I just hold it in trust… and hope I wear it well.”

Second Lieutenant George O’Brien led a counterattack, much of it hand-to-hand fighting, against an enemy-held hill near the 38th Parallel in Korea, on October 27, 1952. O’Brien was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Eisenhower exactly one year later, on October 27, 1953.
